Our Y5 stargazers spent an unforgettable night under the stars! Telescopes in hand, we were able to see Saturn, Jupiter, shooting stars and the milky way. The Moon was at waxing crescent at a distance of 237,000 miles away when the children viewed it. We will never forget this memorable experience.
Year 4 had a fantastic DT lesson where we prepared and made healthy snacks for our topic Fresh Food, Good Food. Different groups made different snacks including hummus with carrot and celery sticks, fruit kebabs and fruity popcorn, then went round letting everyone sample each of them. We discussed the taste and texture of each snack, what made them healthy and if they would be suitable for a snack to take to school.
Year 5 had a fabulous day at Ryhope Engines Museum with our St Oswald’s penpals.
Year 4 were lucky enough to have a food waste workshop with Groundworks, we learned about how food gets to us, what we can do in order to reduce our wastage and the impact of this on our environment.
Year 6 have been enjoying their Friday ‘Book Talk’ – discussing books we have enjoyed.
Year 6 were lucky enough to partake in a workshop delivered by the Waste & Recycling Education Centre about the importance of recycling and our local waste management centre.
Reception had a lovely surprise morning, ahead of our upcoming Marvellous Machines topic, we got to watch the lorry removing the last storage container from the yard.
Year 6 and Reception had a lovely afternoon reading books together.

As part of our topic ‘Remarkable Recipes’, Year 2 we learning about reading recipes. We had to follow a recipe and create our own eton mess, yum!
