🖥️ Coding Quizzes in Scratch: Year 5 is Masterminding Selection! 💻
Our Year 5 computer scientists are diving into an exciting programming unit: Selection in Quizzes!
Throughout this unit, the pupils are levelling up their coding knowledge by exploring how computer programs make decisions. Here is a look at what they are mastering:
-
True or False? Revisiting how ‘conditions’ control the flow of actions in a program.
-
If… Then… Else: Learning how this foundational programming structure selects completely different outcomes depending on user input.
-
Designing Interactivity: Putting their skills to the test by designing and coding their very own interactive quizzes right inside Scratch!
-
Testing & Evaluating: Running, debugging, and sharing their quizzes with classmates to gather feedback and make smart code improvements.
They aren’t just playing games—they are building them from scratch! 🌟
Year 5 enjoyed completing their Geography Fieldwork unit this afternoon where we explored our enquiry question ‘Where does our food come from and how is it affected by climate?’ We used food packaging to explore the country of origin and food miles that it’s travelled in order to reach us before analysing what our data showed.Check out some of our photos!

Year 5 enjoyed another Golf lesson this afternoon. We participated in a mini golf course where we competed against each other to hit the target in as few shots as possible. Check out some of our in action photos!

Year Five celebrated World Music Day by learning about the composer Gustav Holst. After learning about his career and inspiration we went on to perform his pieces using body percussion, percussion instruments and glockenspiels. The children really enjoyed the array of choices and collections.
Year 5 had another great Aspirations Day yesterday where we were thinking big and dreaming big. Check out some of our photos!

Last week, years 5 and 6 took part in The Quad Kids Athletic Tournament. Everyone participated in a variety of athletic activities: howler throwing, long jump, 75m sprint and a 600m run.

Year 5 had a great Forest School session on Friday afternoon. We learned about heterogeneous mixtures and homogeneous mixtures where we specifically focused on filtering, evaporating and sieving as part of our Science learning. Check out some of our photos!

Year 5 had an interactive workshop with Sophie from Jarrow Sea Cadets! We had lots of fun working together in small groups to construct our own catapults. This helped us develop some important transferable skills, such as resilience, teamwork and leadership – skills that are key to the role of a Sea Cadet. Well done year 5!
