Mrs Swanson led a whole school assembly this morning really getting us to think and challenge ourselves linked to our vision of Think BIG…Dream BIG.. Go for it and our aspirations for 2023 !! It was a super start to our New Year at Bede Burn.
We thought about our main words linked to our vision for this term which are ‘aspire’ and ‘inspire’. The children thought about some people who have inpired them such as Neil Armstrong, Christiano Ronaldo and Greta Thunberg. The children were given a task by Mrs Swanson this week to develop their own aspiration dream jar. Some of these will be added to our hall display.
Thank you Mrs Swanson for leading such a fab assembly and really challenging us regarding our aspirations for this coming year.
Year 1 visited Beamish museum as part of their topic, Childhood. We learned all about life in the 1950s and even had a go at some household chores!
Year 1 have been working on consolidating their maths knowledge from the term. We have looked at different ways to represent addition including, number sentences, bar models, part whole models and using practical resources.

As part of our English sequence Year 1 have been practising their reading skills to find out more about a character. We worked in pairs to find adjectives that described the main character, to help when writing our character description.
Year 1 have been using practical resources to help with subtraction problems.
In Year One we have been learning about human and physical features in Geography. We had a fun game of bingo to see who could correctly identify the different features.
In Year One this term we have been learning about human senses. We found out about sensory loss and different assistive tools.
