Year 5 returned to St Joseph’s this morning for another great P.E. event with their Sport’s Leaders. We participated in a striking and fielding tournament where we practised our throwing and catching skills before applying these into a game of rounders.

Year One had the most amazing visit to York. We looked at some of the famous landmarks and compared them to the landmarks we had been learning about in our topic ‘Bright Lights, Big City. We also visited the York Castle Museum to visit the Victorian street ready for our next topic.

Year 5 had an amazing visit to Nissan on Friday that linked directly to our programming unit in Computers this term and our Oracy task last week, all about resilience and perseverance!
We were treated to an example of the types of robots that are used in Nissan’s manufacturing who have gone from using 10 robots when they opened in 1986, to over 6,000 today! They were amazing!
Then, we took part in a Lego challenge to build the highest tower with our partner before they were measured and compared and taken down by a “wreaking ball” till the highest was destroyed by its builders!
We then moved onto programming and were given an iPad and robot to connect and manoeuvre by using programming instructions. Once we’d found our feet, we had to instruct the robot to follow the different shapes on the floor, before moving onto bigger obstacle challenges. This was a real test of our perseverance as it took a lot of adjusting to get the code right. Finally, we had some races to see who could control their robot the best!
Well done to Aidan and Grace who made a great team and won both the building challenge and the race!🎉
Thank you so much to Lesley and Nissan for a truly amazing day!

On Friday, Reception enjoyed a wonderful afternoon tasting the rainbow! We tried raspberry, watermelon, melon, kiwi, pineapple, plum, lemon, mango and blueberries.
We were very resilient and tried new fruits that we haven’t had before or ones that we didn’t think that we liked. Some very funny faces when trying the lemon!

In hockey, week 2, year 4 learned how to move with the ball and dribble around an opponent.

In sessions 3, 4 and 5 of KidSafe, year 4 learned about: movie and game ratings; staying safe on the internet; how to look after your private places and arguments at home or with loved ones.

Year 4 continued their “Misty Mountains and Winding Rivers,” drama sessions on Monday.
