Y6 – Oracy – No Pens Day – 25.11.2025

28th November 2025Helen Smith

Year 6 had a very busy no pens day. In the morning they investigated the practical side of their current maths topic: measurement, read and presented persuasive speeches, in line with their English topic, before guided reading with their reception buddies. The afternoon consisted of a gymnastics lesson, followed by a  French speaking and listening lesson and a chance to show off all of their oracy skills to their parents during COOL afternoon.

Y4 – Oracy – No Pens Day – 25.11.2025

28th November 2025Helen Smith

Year 4 had a fantastic No Pens Day on Tuesday! In Maths, the children explored multiplying and dividing by 10 and 100. They used place value mats to show how digits move, helping them explain their methods.

In English, the children used their oracy skills to give each other step by step instructions on how to make the perfect sandwich . They listened carefully, spoke clearly and had lots of fun!

During History, the children became reporters for the afternoon. They created their own news reports to tell the story of a Viking raid on Lindisfarne. They spent time developing and rehearsing their lines, focusing on projection and engaging their audience. Well done Year Four!

Year 5 enjoyed their No Pens Day! We started the day off discussing a perplexed picture before adding fractions greater than 1 with practical resources and using our iPads for a quiz. We then did our speaking and listening lesson for English and practised orally rehearsing clear instructions to our partner. In Science, we made our own Earth, Sun and Moon model before we showcased our learning to our parents at the end of the day. Check out some of our photos!

Rec – Oracy – No Pens Day – 25.11.2025

25th November 2025Helen Smith

As part of ‘No pens day’ in reception, we explored the school yard to find triangles and circles as part of our maths lesson.  We used our phonics knowledge to build words using the letter cards in phonics.  In drawing club, we used our oracy skills to describe our own bus stop, as part of the story ‘We catch the bus’.  We joined our year 6 buddies in the hall for guided reading and then finished the day with our grown up creating puppets and machines as part of our topic.
