Girls’ Football

11th March 2022Mr G Mcintosh

What an exciting afternoon at Hebburn Comprehensive on Wednesday 9th March for the first matches in the Superleague for our girls’ team.

The results were:

1 – 1 draw with Hebburn Lakes
2-1 defeat to St Aloysius

Mrs Todd went to watch and was so impressed with the determination, courage, skills and accuracy of the whole team.

Well done to all of the team and their coach, Mrs Riley!

Y2: Science

11th March 2022Mr G Mcintosh

This week in Year 2 we have been investigating absorbency in Science. We have used vocabulary like water proof, absorbent and saturated.

We thought about our research question and how we could record and measure our results. I was really impressed with the scientists we have in Year 2.

World Book Day

6th March 2022Mr G Mcintosh

The whole school had a fantastic time celebrating World Book Day. A whole school assembly was hosted by Mrs Peel where costumes were showcased and everyone tried to guess the book that had inspired them.

KS1 took part in a crowd cast focusing on Fairy Tales and Animal Stories with Axel Scheffler and KS2’s crowd cast focused on: Welcome to The Rema Chronicles: creating manga-inspired graphic novels with Amy Kim Kibuishi.

For the first time in a number of years, our house groups also met up with house leaders and spent some time together enjoying books and activities.

It was a fantastic day enjoyed by all. Huge thanks to Mrs Peel for organising, to our parents and carers for the excellent outfits and to our teachers and pupils for all of their enthusiasm!

Y4: Maths

6th March 2022Mr G Mcintosh

This week in Year 4, children are starting work on division.

Today we divided 2-digit numbers by 1-digit numbers. We tried a range of methods and picked the ones which worked best for us. Some of us used base 10 to share the number into equal groups. Some of us used our times table knowledge to partition numbers into different multiples.

Next week, we will be moving onto formal written division.

Y1: PE

18th February 2022Mr G Mcintosh

Year 1 read the story ‘The Birthday Bike Surprise’ as part of their new PE unit. During the warm up they explored how many different ways they could move whilst ‘riding their bike’.

Their skill this week was coordination and footwork, where they worked on side-stepping in both directions, side steps with pivots, hopscotch and moving in zig zag patterns.

They showed great fluency and control.

Well done everyone!
