Spring term in Year 5

Welcome to Year 5.
We are looking forward to another fun-packed term of learning and growing together.
We have lots of exciting lessons planned to inspire and engage your children in their journey through our next two topics; Allotment and Stargazers.

Year 5 team:

Topic Projects
Spring 1 – Allotment
We will discover and observe what community members are growing and how they use the land beginning with a visit to a local allotment.

Spring 2 – Stargazers
We will explore Stars and Planets in the Universe incorporating a visit to The Centre of Life Planetarium.

Useful Information:
PE days: Every Thursday.
Please bring in PE kit and leave at school in case it is needed on additional days – thank you.

Forest school: Every Wednesday morning this half term.

Children are encouraged to bring a water bottle to school.

Seesaw is up and running and this will be used to set homework and post photos to give you a little insight into what we are getting up to during the day.

Homework will be issued on a Wednesday via Seesaw.

We ask that you read with your child for 10 minutes each day. Reading is vitally important to mental stimulation, knowledge expansion and better writing skills.

Reading books to be in school every day so that they can take part in our reading scheme Accelerated Reader.

The Golden Table

Our first set of students to be chosen for ‘The Golden Table’ at lunchtime as recognition for being polite, well-mannered and respectful.

Odd Socks Day

Today children and staff have come to school wearing odd socks to mark the start of Anti -Bullying week. We are promoting the message that it is good to be different and celebrating our individuality.

Visit from the RNLI

The children from KS2 enjoyed an engaging assembly by the RNLI last week. We learnt about the role of the charity, how they save thousands of lives each year and how we can keep safe at the beach or near water.

School Council Elections

Democracy in action today at Bedeburn as children each voted for their preferred candidate for our School Council.

Well done to the winning candidates and thank you to all candidates who took part and presented their manifesto’s.

Tea, Toast and Togetherness

Breakfast with a Book was a lovely opportunity for Year 5 to spend time reading and sharing books with their families and friends.

We listened to stories together, enjoyed some tea and toast and had time for individual reading.

Petwise Award

Receiving the PDSA Petwise Award certifying that we are now a Petwise school.

We are the third school in the country to have completed this award.
