Muck, Mess and Mixtures… Year Two’s Messy Day!

24th January 2020Mr M Ferraro

Wow, what a fantastic day we had in Year 2 on Monday! To kick start our topic, Muck, Mess and Mixtures, we had a day of art, DT, science and food as our ‘memorable experience’.

The children had such a good time joining in with all the activities and couldn’t wait to try everything independently.

First, we tied and dyed our t-shirts in buckets of yellow, blue and red. Then, using junk modelling, we created ‘Egg Box Dragons’ based on the story we’ve read in class. After lunch we experimented with mixtures. We tried to mix water and oil, but the liquids kept separating! We also mixed vinegar and baking soda which gave an exciting reaction! Later in the day we tried to make the perfect bubble mixture using water and soap. When the mixture was right, we managed to make huge bubbles! We then tried in groups to make our own bubble blowers and bubble mixture. We ended the day with a tasty mixture… custard!

Luckily, by the next day our tie-dyed t-shirts had dried. We decided to wear them to yoga to make our lesson extra funky.

It was such a great day and we’re looking forward to doing even more!

Our new topic and Forest School!

16th March 2018Mr M Ferraro

Although we missed our first ever Forest School’s lesson due to snow, we finally managed to explore the school grounds and start digging up the plant beds ready to grow vegetables in accordance with our topic – ‘Allotments’.

The morning began in the forest where we made our journey sticks which wood serve as a tool to remind us of

where we had been and what we had seen on an excursion around the school grounds.

During the morning Mrs Evans lettuce dig up the beds using all sorts of tools. She made it clear that for us to succseed, we’d have to work together. Mr Ferraro was shocked to hear there was a leek in between the veg which was quickly found and we got on peasfully with the rest of our work. Children could be heard shouting ‘This is the best lesson ever, nothing could beet this!’ which was delightful to hear.

The children have embraced the ‘home learning ideas’ for the allotment topic which has seen a few of them fly home and create bird feeders made from fat, oats and fruit. We’ve watched as many birds have flocked to them daily which has caused great excitement in the classroom.

We can’t wait for our next outdoor adventure!

Fitness Mornings with The Body Coach Joe Wicks.

By Mr M Ferraro15th September 2017

All this week children from across the school have dedicated up to half an hour to getting fit. At 10am sharp we joined Joe Wicks on his Youtube channel to join in with a live 30 minute workout. The idea behind the workouts was to get children awake and active whilst having fun… helping them switch on for the day ahead.

The children had great fun and were definitely ready for their break time afterwards, Well done everyone!

Day 6 with Year 4

16th June 2017Mr M Ferraro

On Monday Year 4 were lucky enough to have our Chinese visitors finally join them.

During the day they built Towers in mixed groups to see who could build the tallest structure. They also showed their guests some of the games they play in there PE lessons which everyone had a great go at.

It was a fantastic experience learning with all the new students and teachers and I hope we get to experience it again in the future.
