As you may be aware, we have recently completed the redesign and development of our garden area outside of the years three and five classrooms.
The old, rotten decking has been replaced with a patio area, the bushes and shrubs have been tidied up, the unruly willow tunnel has been replaced with low level planters, new turf has been laid, a new path has been laid around the ‘wild area’, the potting shed has been moved into the direct sunlight and a large storage shed has been erected! Phew!
As you will see from the photographs, this was a huge job, but one that was well worth doing and I am sure that the children are looking forward to getting out there and enjoying the space and nature!
After the resounding success of ‘Under the Sea’ day on the last Friday of half term, we are delighted that this week is school meals week. We have four special lunches lined up, I hope you all enjoy them as much as we did the last one.
Tuesday 3 November – ‘Great British Day’ lunch
Wednesday 4 November – ‘Italian Day’ lunch
Thursday 5 November – ‘Bonfire Night’ lunch
Friday 6 November – ‘Remembrance Day’ lunch
mmmmmmmmmmm
Year 2 have had a Halloween symmetry competition today. It was very tricky to pick a winning pair, luckily Mrs Miller was around to help us!
They were all superstars but the winning pair was Lewis George and Lewis Newsome! 🙂
Wow, what a brilliant assembly we have just had! I love the pumpkins and it really was almost impossible to choose! In the end a three way tie for first place was decided by my favourite pumpkin – the whale – deciding the overall result for Aydon! Miss Summers was delighted as she had ‘pumpkined up’ for the event!
Really well done every one and have a great half term!
Thank you very much for taking the time to fill in the parental questionnaire that was given out at parents evening. We had an amazing 90% return rate, meaning that the findings were truly representative of the whole school.
In all the results are very pleasing, it is clear that most of you believe that we are trying our best to meet each individual child’s needs and teach them to the very best of our ability. I was delighted that 98.6% would recommend Bede Burn to another family! (some even had 100%, or smiley faces written here – thank you!)
I know that we have work to do in some areas. I realise that homework is a very difficult area. Although 95.1% of you feel that homework is appropriate, there will always be a difference of opinions. I encourage staff to set homework only where it is relevant and helpful. Every child is expected to read for at least 15 minutes every night and to practice multiplication tables until they know them off by heart.
We are looking carefully at how we can provide more extra curricular activities. at present we have: Boys Football, Choir, Multi Skills, Fencing and Writing clubs. After half term Year3/4 football, girls football 5/6, crime scene science and pyramid club will start.
We have discussed as a staff what else we could provide, so keep a look out for more after school clubs in the coming weeks…
Although only 80.2% agreed that ‘the school handles incidents of bullying effectively’ of the 18.4% who marked the ‘neither agree nor disagree’ box 96% of those forms had indicated that this was either N/A (thankfully) or ‘we have had no experience of this so are unable to comment.
Bullying is an issue that we take seriously at Bede Burn, we are working hard to convince the 1.4% that we are effective in our handling of incidents.
Finally, thank you for those of you that took the time to use the comments box on the reverse of the form. We were delighted with some of the comments and kind words of support. As ever, if there is anything you would like to suggest or ask, either use the contact form on the website or use the comments sections under a post. I check the website every day!
The full results are below.
As you can see here I am going to have a very difficult job judging this year!
The winners will be posted and announced this afternoon.
This Friday (23rd October) our chef, Mrs Caffrey, is hosting the first of several themed lunch days. All children are welcome to join us on Friday for a traditional fish ‘n’ chips lunch. Served in traditional wrappings, the children will enjoy freshly battered fish and hot, crispy chips!
Even if your child normally takes packed lunch, they are welcome to stay for lunch on Friday, just make sure you let Mrs Miller know!
There will also be fishy competitions and prizes!
look out for more themed days in the future, we have Mexican, Italian, and Wild West days planned as well as traditional ‘Burns’ supper!
