Thank you very much for taking the time to fill in the parental questionnaire that was given out at parents evening.  We had an amazing 90% return rate, meaning that the findings were truly representative of the whole school.

In all the results are very pleasing, it is clear that most of you believe that we are trying our best to meet each individual child’s needs and teach them to the very best of our ability.  I was delighted that 98.6% would recommend Bede Burn to another family! (some even had 100%, or smiley faces written here – thank you!)

I know that we have work to do in some areas. I realise that homework is a very difficult area. Although 95.1% of you feel that homework is appropriate, there will always be a difference of opinions.  I encourage staff to set homework only where it is relevant and helpful.  Every child is expected to read for at least 15 minutes every night and to practice multiplication tables until they know them off by heart.

We are looking carefully at how we can provide more extra curricular activities. at present we have: Boys Football, Choir, Multi Skills, Fencing and Writing clubs.  After half term Year3/4 football, girls football 5/6, crime scene science and pyramid club will start.

We have discussed as a staff what else we could provide, so keep a look out for more after school clubs in the coming weeks…

Although only 80.2% agreed that ‘the school handles incidents of bullying effectively’ of the 18.4% who marked the ‘neither agree nor disagree’ box 96% of those forms had indicated that this was either N/A (thankfully) or ‘we have had no experience of this so are unable to comment.

Bullying is an issue that we take seriously at Bede Burn, we are working hard to convince the 1.4% that we are effective in our handling of incidents.
