Science in Year 3

18th May 2021Mr G Mcintosh

Year 3 take the first big step!

After over a year, Year 3 were the first class to have a memorable experience… OUTSIDE OF SCHOOL!

As part of our topic ‘Mighty Metals’, we visited the playground at Monkton Dene Park. Whilst we were there, we played on all the equipment and described the forces in action. We got to experience these forces as we went on the zip line, slid down the slide and swung on the swings!

When we got back to school, we identified the equipment and the forces we’d experienced.

‘Road Trip USA!

14th May 2021Mr G Mcintosh

As part of our topic, ‘Road Trip USA!’, the children have been creating different pieces of artwork inspired by Native American culture. Firstly, the children used colourful threads, beads and feathers to create dreamcatchers. We learned about the purpose of dreamcatchers and what Native Americans believed they do. After this, we learned about the myth of the Navajo Spider Woman before using scrap fabrics to weave our owned Navajo-style bookmarks. The children loved how each craft had a meaning behind it. Take a look at our eye-catching creations!

Year 4 had a go at doing some cloud watching.

14th May 2021Mr G Mcintosh

For our assembly task this week, Year 4 had a go at doing some cloud watching. The children made the most of the rare blue sky and had a go at either sketching the clouds or taking pictures of them on the iPads. The children spotted all sorts in the clouds, from Baby Shark to a space ship! This task was to support Mental Health Awareness Week and the children all agreed that cloud watching was a great way to unwind!

Road Trip USA

27th April 2021Mr G Mcintosh

As part of our new topic, Road Trip USA!, Year 4 completed our school orienteering course. Working in partners, they had to use a map of our school grounds to locate markers. Each marker had information about a US state and the Native American tribe that once lived there. The children were so impressed with our new extended forest garden and orienteering resources!

Some of the children were surprised to learn that they are familiar with some of the Native American tribe names. Our memorable experience has really got us excited to learn more about our new topic.
