English was never like this when I was at school…

By A Lenney10th March 2016

Year 3 had a most unusual English lesson on Friday. We were thinking about dreams and dressed in our dressing gowns, slippers and onesies to listen to different music and think about what feelings we had as we listened. We then wrote about our dreams.

A Visit from the RNLI

By A Lenney3rd March 2016

Year 3 had a visitor last week from the RNLI. Her name was Nadia and she came to see us to say thank you to Lennon for organising some fundraising in our school, and also to tell about the work the RNLI does.

We learnt about the boats that are used to rescue people. We also learnt that if we have a problem in the water we should put one hand in the air and shout for help. If we saw anyone having a problem in the water we should call 999 or 112 and ask for the Coastguard. We should also look for a lifeguard on the beach to tell them, we found out that we should never go into the sea and risk our lives, because that would mean that the lifeguards would have to rescue us too!

Nadia told us that the flags on a beach tell us important messages, the red and yellow flag means that it is safe to swim because there is a lifeguard watching, The red flag means it is not safe to go into the water, and the black and white flag means that it is a surfing area.

It was a great afternoon, and we learnt a lot! We even got a special message from the RNLI, can you spot it in our photographs?

Year 3’s Mathematical Challenge!

By A Lenney12th February 2016

Year 3 would like to challenge you to solve our maths problem, here it is…

A farmer counts his animals is a very weird way- he counts their feet!  He can count 38 feet.  However, he has both hens and sheep on his farm. Can you calculate how many sheep and hens he could have. [There is more than one answer.]

Extra Challenge…

How many hens does the farmer have if he has 5 sheep?

How many sheep does he have if he have one hen?

Good luck and post your answer as a comment.

Guess who came to visit Year 3 today.

By A Lenney9th February 2016

Year 3 had an unexpected visitor today. Mr. Willy Wonka himself, came to our class to visit us. It was amazing!!!

Mr. Wonka came to see us because he wanted to hear our brilliant ideas and to say thank you for helping him last week when the Oompa-Loompas disappeared.

Everyone was given a certificate by Mr. Wonka for our excellent work. We all had our photo taken with him, even Mrs. Parkes, Mrs. Arthur and Miss Lenney.

We had the time of our lives!

Mr. Wonka told us that we were the first class that he has ever visited. We couldn’t believe our eyes when he flung the door open and burst into our classroom.

What a brilliant way to finish our work on Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, a fantastic book!

Wonka’s Chocolate Factory

By A Lenney4th February 2016
  1. Wow what a morning, no maths or English today for Year 3! We arrived to a letter from Willy Wonka asking us to help him as the Oompa-Loompas had disappeared and gone on holiday, eventually to be found at Cadbury’s World checking out the competition.

So Year 3 accepted the challenge and we made Lickable Wallpaper, Marshmallow Monsters and even created a new chocolate bar. Phew! We were exhausted, the Oompa- Loompas certainly must work hard.

We hope that Mr. Wonka is pleased with what we have done.

Science is magic!

By A Lenney4th February 2016

Year 3 became scientific magicians yesterday when we made a paper clip float in mid-air. You can see by our expressions how amazed we were. We were then able to explain that it was the force of magnetism that was causing this and not magic, Miss Lenney thought that this was the magical part of the lesson!!!
