Advenntures with Bear

4th April 2020A Lenney

Hello Everyone

Well we are at the end of our second week working from home. I have been so impressed with the work that the children in Year 3 have done this week. We have been retelling the story of Odysseus and the Trojan Horse and identifying fractions, counting in tenths and adding fractions in maths. A very busy week!

I have been enjoying the messages from both children and parents and have had a bit of help with my work! Bear does sometimes think I should be giving her a tickle rather than working, but we are enjoying spending time together.

Stay well and safe everyone

Keeping up with Bear

26th March 2020A Lenney

Hello Everyone

Well we are nearly at the end of the first week of our new way of life. I have been able to get out and about walking Bear. She is very good, but loves to chase birds and bits of black plastic, this is a bit strange and she tries to trick me by looking the other way and then running very quickly!

I

Now we are back from our walk and she is fast asleep.

Welcome to 2020: Year 3

6th January 2020A Lenney

Welcome back to a full and busy Spring term. First of all I would like to wish everyone a very Happy New Year, I hope that you all had a wonderful time over the holidays and had lots of fun.

This term promises to be lots of fun too. We are beginning a new topic entitled “Gods and Mortals” where we will be discovering the myths and legends of Ancient Greece as well as looking at the geography of the region. We might even explore how we would have acted if we had found Pandora’s Box. Would you have opened it or left it well alone?

I am really looking forward to studying two different books this term, The Tin Forest and The Iron Man. Both are amazing books, but very different, one definitely appeals to the eye with beautiful and meaningful illustrations, while the other is the definition of “don’t judge a book by its cover”. We will look at how these books surprise and challenge the reader, as well as trying to write in a range of styles.

Maths will continue to challenge us to build on our knowledge daily, we will look at topics which include multiplication and division, money, fractions and measurement. As well as learning new methods and facts, I hope that we will continue to have fun with numbers and explore this exciting subject.

This term also sees Year 3 starting swimming sessions. This will take place after February half term, and more details will be sent out near the time. We will finish the term with our Grandparents’ Concert, which is always a highlight of the year, I wonder what the theme will be this year!

As you can see, this is a very full term, with lots to look forward to.

English with a difference!

18th December 2019A Lenney

Year 3’s English lesson looked a bit different today! After all our work on The Polar Express we finally got to watch it. All cosy and we had hot chocolate too! It is lovely to share experiences with our classmates.

We remembered them.

14th November 2019A Lenney

The children and staff of Bede Burn Primary School joined people across our country today as we took part in the 2 minute silence at 11 o’clock. Children, teachers, teaching partners, admin staff and kitchen staff observed the commemoration to remember those who had made the ultimate sacrifice.

During the weeks before Remembrance Day, our children have been able to share stories from their own families, and we have created our own Remembrance display with poppies in the windows of our school. Each child in school was able to contribute to this with some writing messages for family members.

We’re in the Juniors now!

5th September 2019A Lenney

Welcome to Year 3.

I am so excited and thrilled to say hello to our time in Year 3. This is such an exciting time in our learning journey, we will be building on everything we learned in Key Stage 1 and exploring and acquiring new skills as we move forward.

Our journey starts by travelling back in time to The Stone Age, which we will study as part of our project Tribal Tales. We will be exploring cave paintings, amazing creatures and the lives of those people who lived so long ago.

Some important things to note for Year 3

PE Days are Tuesday and Friday. On a Tuesday we will be taking part in a Yoga class for the first half term, also on a Tuesday we will be taking part in Pedestrian Training, so a Tuesday afternoon will be very busy.

Reading Days will be shared with the children by the end of the first week, and I will also be sending more information out about homework this week.

Mr Mac and I have been absolutely thrilled with the way the children have coped with the challenge of Year 3. Indeed lots of people have commented on how sensible and confident the children have been. What an amazing start!

As ever, if you have any questions or concerns, or just want a chat to find out how things are going, then please don’t hesitate to get in touch.

Thank you for your continuing enthusiasm and support.

Miss Lenney and Mr Mac

Finding germs!

4th June 2019A Lenney

We have been finding out about Louis Pasteur in science, so we decided to carry out an experiment of our own. We had two pieces of bread, we did not handle one piece, but the other piece we all handled. Now we are waiting to see what happens!
