Year 3 and our consultant gardener, have begun planting in our new “allotment”. We can’t wait to see what happens over the next few weeks. As long as we keep Miss Lenney away from it, the plants should grow really well.
Bede Burn School Council are looking at different ways to celebrate the Queen’s 90th Birthday. We have had a few ideas, but what do you think? We look forward to hearing from you, please comment below.
The School Council
Today we use 5 different pictures to put into any order we wanted and then used these to tell a story. The children used “The 5 “W”s” to add more details to the stories. These are “who, what, where, when and why?”
I’m really looking forward to listening to their stories tomorrow.
Yeehaw! and welcome back after a lovely Easter break. The exciting news this term is that our topic is going to be based on North America, and yes that does include the USA and Canada. So we have the excuse to celebrate both American Independence Day and Canada Day. Sadly an Educational visit has not proved possible but we hope to bring the atmosphere to Bede Burn, so keep an eye on the website for our adventures. We will be finding out about the history and geography of these amazing countries, hopefully our Canadian penpals will be able to help us with this research.
After our fantastic work on Roald Dahl last term, our English work this term promises to be just as exciting as we study tales from other lands. The stories are full of magic and will provide plenty of opportunity to develop our writing skills. Reading continues to be a focus with the ability to read beyond the printed word and to develop our skills in answering questions beginning with “Why,,,”
As this is the final term in Year 3 [can you believe it!] we will be consolidating and extending our learning, ensuring we are secure in our understanding of the four rules of number and developing the skills needed to tackle problems and investigations. Fractions, understanding of time and geometry will be the other areas of the curriculum to be developed this term.
One of the biggest challenges of the year lies ahead in our study of plants this term, together with the development of our allotment. Plants should be very afraid!!! I am really hoping that the children prove very different to their teacher in their ability to grow and tend for our garden. We will be learning about the function of different parts of a plant and thinking about the effect that different conditions can have on the growth of plants.
Art and music will be linked to our topic work with The Canadian Group of Seven and the art of the original peoples of America forming part of our study,
As you can see we have an extremely busy and exciting term ahead of us, I am really looking forward to exploring these new topics. So it’s time to…
“Saddle up and ride ’em, Cowboy!”
Year 3 had a very exciting time planning the story that Sophie told the Queen. We pretended to be Sophie and the Queen to help us to with our planning and writing.
Mrs A. and Mrs P. working hard, preparing for Year 3’s writing lesson tomorrow. I wonder why they are preparing crowns Year 3?
We are all really proud of our banners. We worked with Mrs. Moore to include images of things that represented our interests, hobbies and families. We then had to sew them. They turned out really brilliantly!
We looked at three different types of magnet games: a fishing game, a race track and a maze, we then worked with a partner to design and make our own versions of these games.
