Year 3 had a great time thinking about where all the bones are. We had some interesting ideas. What do you think?
Wow! What an afternoon Year 2 have had! Richard Stevenson (That History Bloke) came to Year 2 to teach us all about the Victorian times. We studied old photographs and artefacts, which helped us to understand what the time was like when the Great Fire of Gateshead and Newcastle started.
We ended the afternoon with a fantastic drama session, where we acted as workers that spotted the fire! We can’t wait to visit the Quayside on Friday to learn more about the Great Fire of Gateshead and Newcastle.
The whole school had a very entertaining morning today when we welcomed poet Paul Cookson into school. He made us all laugh with his reading of his hilarious poems about teachers and dads! All the children joined in with actions and they enjoyed his songs accompanied by rock and roll music played on his ukulele.

The children have settled back into classroom routines after the half term break and have really impressed us with their positive attitude towards each other and the learning opportunities available to them.
Classroom activities, indoors and outdoors (weather permitting) continue to be centered on developing language and communication and problem solving skills across all areas of learning with activities linked to class topics as well as evolving from children’s interests.
Our first topic this half term is ‘Me at School’, giving us a chance to explore more of the building and find out who everybody is. The children will be involved in planning routes around school and making simple plans as well as making signs to help others find their way around. We will also be thinking about how we can keep our school looking nice and maybe even adding a few of our own improvements!
Other topics this half term include ‘Magic’ with very much a focus on stories, imagination and fantasy words leading us nicely up to ‘Christmas’, a magical time in school and particularly in the Reception classroom!
Thank you for your support in reinforcing reading activities introduced in class, it really does make a difference. If you have any questions please feel free to pop in.

Year 2 have had a Halloween symmetry competition today. It was very tricky to pick a winning pair, luckily Mrs Miller was around to help us!
They were all superstars but the winning pair was Lewis George and Lewis Newsome! 🙂
Year 6, Mrs Todd, Mr Arthur and Mrs Parkes had a soggy yet great day at Bamburgh and Holy Island yesterday. Sadly, the rain poured down all day and we returned home drenched.
That did not stop us having a walk to the top of the hill at Bamburgh Castle to look out for any invading Vikings – luckily, we didn’t see any! After a spot of lunch in Bamburgh Cricket Pavillion we made our way to an even soggier Holy Island. Our visit captured the bleak and isolated life the monks must have led at Lindisfarne and gave us a great insight into the shock the Viking raid must have been!
Huge well done to all of the children who behaved beautifully and only moaned about the weather a few times!

Year 2 had great fun creating Tudor houses. They used black paper and charcoal pencils to create and design their own.
So very proud of our Year One and Reception children for their role in supporting the Macmillan fund raising event held in school on Friday. Just standing in front of so many people is daunting enough but to perform so early in the term takes real star quality!
For those of you who were unable to come here is a short clip of Reception singing ‘Elephants have Wrinkles.’Elephants have wrinkles
Our school choir, Beat Burn, got together last week for our first meeting of the new school year. Everyone was very enthusiastic when we warmed up with a rousing rendition of ‘Jump Jim Joe’. We went on to practise songs that we’ll hopefully be showing parents later on in the year… I spotted lots of budding Beyonces and Sam Smiths…great job everyone!
Also, spoiler alert…new Beat Burn T-shirts coming soon, in time for our Christmas schedule!
