Y5 – Sophie receives an MBE – 28.03.2023

28th March 2023Helen Smith

What a privilege it was for me to attend Hebburn Helps and see our gorgeous Sophia from Bede Burn and handsome Callum from St Oswald’s and their mams receive their MBE awards for their voluntary services to aid the community. Both Sophia and Callum for years have given up their school holidays to support at Hebburn Helps and ensure those who need support in the community are fed. Their work was also recognised during the pandemic. They are real courageous advocates and I am so so proud to be their headteacher! Thanks Callum and Sophia.

Love Mrs Smith

Boys Football – Mr Usher’s Match Report – PE – 14.03.2023

15th March 2023Helen Smith
After a fantastic flowing demonstration of football  in the last round of games, many of the Bede Burn fans were left wondering ‘But can they do it on a cold snowy Tuesday night at Clegwell?’
In frosty conditions Bede Burn took on high flying St Aloysius who are current league leaders. In a fast paced game, a resolute Bede Burn team stood strong against what seemed like an endless wave of attacks from St Aloysius and made it to half time at 0-0. Despite a number of fine saves from the Bede Burn goal keeper, St Aloysius stole a goal early in the second half and, aside for one quick counter attack from Bede Burn, saw the game out well to win 1-0, a fine performance from the lads who went toe to toe against a very good team.
A short break between games allowed some time for some shooting drills and the boys put these efforts on show in the second game against Jarrow Cross – who had to play three consecutive games without a break. The boys utilised their fresh legs and pressed quickly from the beginning and worked the ball down the left wing for a simple cross and finish inside the box. Soon the lead was doubled as Bede Burn pressed again high up the pitch and the ball was rifled home past the keeper, 2-0 at half time. A number of changes at half time saw Bede Burn freshen up the team further and they rounded off the game with a well taken third in the dying moments of the game, a deserved 3-0 victory and credit to the boys for another strong showing in the new strips.

Wow!   What a brilliant start we had to World Book Day this morning led by Mrs Peel (Maleficent).  We showed each other our costumes in a cat walk style walk of each class around the hall and talked about what books certain costumes were from.  Thanks for Mrs Peel for all of your hard work to plan our World book day for 2023 and it’s only just begun.
