Year 5 had great fun dressing up and supporting Children in Need last Friday. We began by completing a word search, writing our own acrostic poem and answering a Children in Need reading comprehension before heading into the hall to take part in a Children in Need escape game! We had great fun supporting this worthy cause.

Year 5 represented Bede Burn at the remembrance service held in Monkton Village on Tuesday. The class were very respectful during the service and were even congratulated by the Mayor of South Tyneside and members of the public on their conduct. Our class councillors Olivia and Zaki did a lovely job when they laid the school’s wreath on our behalf. Well done for making us proud Year 5.
Year 5 had their second Sportshall Athletics lesson this afternoon in P.E. After warming up, we practised the standing long jump and 5 strides for the field events. Also, we reminded ourselves of how to safelyuse the reverser boards before practising with them and adding in the high stepper for the obstacle relay. Check out some of our in action photos!

Year 5 have embraced their new D.T. topic, “Moving Mechanisms” this week by investigating the effects of pneumatics and the many ways it can be used. We conducted a number of experiments looking at how compressed air works, which will help us design and make our own pneumatic machine that can perform a useful function in the home.

This morning in Maths, Year 5 played Bingo to begin with to consolidate their learning on dividing by 10, 100 and 1000. Then, we worked in groups to play Jeopardy where we answered lots of questions about multiplying and dividing in multiples of 10, 100 and 1000.

Year 5 started their new Earth and Space topic in Science this afternoon. We learned about the Solar System and explored how the planets orbit around the sun through creating a 3D model and represented the Solar System.
This morning, Year 5 visited The Word to explore the Cogs and Carnivals exhibition linked to our Forces and Mechanisms unit in Science. It added to our learning of pulleys, gears and levers. Check out some of our photos!
