Y4 – Art – 3D Form – 10.6.2025

10th June 2025Helen Smith
Year Four had a very creative day today as they studied their new art topic “Statues, Statuettes and Figurines”, which links in with our Summer topic of “Ancient Civilisations”.This project teaches children about the 3-D representation of the human form.
They first studied various portraits of the human form and then, using our little mannequins as a base, drew their own figure drawings in various poses, then added shape and detail.  They studied examples of statuettes from ancient civilisations, and then used their clay skills to create a 3D Sumer-style figurine.

Y4 – Science – Visit to the Glass Centre – 19.2.2025

20th February 2025Helen Smith
Year 4 have had an amazing introduction to their next science topic of “Changing Matter” that they will be starting after half term by a visit to the National Glass Centre.
We performed a range of experiments to see if our predictions would be correct when water was added to different substances and watched how glass is blown to create a beautiful wavy bowl after heating it to temperatures of 1,100 degrees!
To end a brilliant day, we planned and made our own glass designs that will be fired in the ovens at 780 degrees and collected over the holidays,
We are so excited for next term!

Y4 – Art – Time to Talk Day – 3.2.2025

7th February 2025Helen Smith
Year Four completed their Vista topic in our Time to Talk Day using all the knowledge they have gained, to research and produce a piece of landscape art focusing on creating an atmospheric perspective using different shading and colouring techniques. They chose which medium they wished to use to colour their drawing and some decided on watercolours, pencils, fine line pens or even pastels.
Once completed, the children wrote a statement explaining why they had chosen that particular picture and which techniques they had used, which they presented to parents and carers in our art gallery.
