Year 4 attended St. Paul’s Church this afternoon for a service of thanksgiving for St. Bede, which was led by students from local schools and the Dean of Durham. We learned lots of information about St. Bede and how he’s linked to Durham Cathedral.

Year 4 had their final Tennis session yesterday afternoon. We practised our overhead serve and volleying skills before combining all of our skills that we’ve learned over this last half term. Check out some of our in action photos!

Year Four had a very energetic day yesterday taking part in the Year 3/4 OAA event at North Marine Park. We split into two teams and used our map reading skills to locate the markers around the park, joining in with games ran by Harton Academy’s Sports Leaders along the way. The sun was shining all day long and we had a fabulous day!

Year 4 had their next Tennis lesson on Thursday in P.E. We practised our forehand and backhand strokes over the nets during our games with our partners. Check out some of our action shots!

Year 4 enjoyed their second Tennis lesson in P.E. this afternoon. We recapped the fundamentals from last week before practising our forehand, single backhand and double backhand strokes. Check out some our in action Tennis skills!

Year Four thoroughly enjoyed their first session of Djembe Drumming with Derek on Friday. Originating from West Africa, the djembe drum body is made from hardwood and the head is traditionally made from goatskin.
We learnt how to hold the drum to let the sound vibrate and practised two of the main sounds of bass and tone. The bass sound is produced by striking the drum with the palm and flat fingers near the centre of the skin. The tone is produced by striking the drum closer to the edge of the skin. We practised both hits by reciting the phrase “Batman, Batgirl” in time with each other.
To end the session, we played a game of “Don’t hit this rhythm back”, where the children had to copy any beats that Derek made UNLESS it made the tune of “Don’t hit this rhythm back”, where if you did hit it back, you were eliminated! It got quite competitive!
We can’t wait till next week!

Year 4 had their first Tennis session in P.E. on Wednesday. We discussed the fundamentals of Tennis and reviewed what we already knew about it. We looked at the handshake grip and maintaining control of the ball whilst developing our agility, balance and coordination. We practised catching and controlling the ball using our racket before we worked with our partner to accurately hit the ball to themwhere we tried our best to be the pair with the highest rally. Miss Barron was impressed with our Tennis skills so far!

Year Four have spent time using resources to practically divide numbers into decimals. This helped us to grasp a good understanding of tenths before we began working in our books. We’ve made a great start! Well done Year Four!

As part of their art topic ‘Animal’, Year Four have been learning a new skill in lino printing. Using carving tools, they carved a picture of a peacock feather into pieces of Lino. This is a very tricky process as pressing too hard will make deep gouges in the Lino, therefore holding the tools at a smaller angle makes it possible to create thin, intricate lines.
Once this was complete, the tiles were then painted to resemble peacock feathers, before being printed, using rollers, onto paper. We hope you like our results!

Year Four got off to an “eggcellent” start to the holidays by completing an Easter Egg Hunt around the Forest Garden, just like they have been writing in class, as a set of instructions. They all had a brilliant time and can’t wait to enjoy the holidays!
Happy Easter everyone!
