Year 4 had their final Hockey lesson this afternoon. We started with a super fun warm up game of Toilet Tig, but Hockey style before participating in two large Hockeyteam games. We had one last practise of our ball control, attacking and defending alongside our communication with the other remaining members of our team. We’ve really enjoyed our P.E. this half term.

Year 4 had their penultimate Hockey lesson on Wednesday afternoon where we competed in a friendly tournament. We practised our dribbling, passing and shooting skills. We also practised our communicating with our team mates to use all the space available. We’ve really enjoyed our Hockey learning so far this half term.

Year 4 discussed how materials change from one state to another. Today, we experimented with a chocolate button where we placed one onto our hand. After a short while, the chocolate button started to melt into a liquid from the heat of our hand. It changed its state of matter from a solid into a liquid. We enjoyed having the remains!

Year 4 enjoyed ‘Wear your Colours’ day and they were super proud to show off their teams and colours.

Year 4 had a great, sporty morning at St Joseph’s for our P.E. Event with the Sport’s Leaders. For the first half of the morning, we participated in a Sportshall Athletics Competition where we enjoyed competing in hurdle races, sprints (using the Sportshall reverser boards), standing long jump, vertical jump, 5 strides, overhead throw and skipping.
The second half of the morning involved us participating in Benchball and Dodgeball competitions which we thoroughly enjoyed. We worked well within our teams where we were developing our agility, balance and coordination whilst having fun! Thank you St Joseph’s Catholic Academy!
Year 4 have been practising playing Hockey games this afternoon in their P.E. Lesson ready for our Hockey competition next week. We have been experiencing Hockey game time in where we have gained confidence in dribbling, passing, attacking and defending in a game based situation. We have focused on remembering the key rules and applying these in a game situation. We are excited for our upcoming competition.

After studying William Morris designs in our DT topic,’Functional and Fancy Fabrics’, and looking at various ways of embellishing fabrics, Year Four has been learning how to sew! We have sewed a hem and attached a button and even learnt how to embroider various different types of stitches. It took a lot of patience and concentration but we all managed to complete some fantastic pieces and are excited to do more!

Year Four are really happy with their completed glass fused tiles that they made recently on a visit to the National Glass Centre in Sunderland. Whilst there, they also took part in a workshop to investigate changing states of matter to introduce them to their new science topic.
