Y4 – English – World Book Day – 6.3.2025

6th March 2025Helen Smith
Year 4 had a busy World Book Day today! We started the morning by sharing books and stories with each other where we talked about our favourite books and why we had chosen to come dressed as them today. We decorated our ‘Starbooks’ cups ready to sip our hot chocolate from. We discussed our class book for World Book Day which was called ‘Secrets of the Mountain’ linked with our current Geography unit before writing our own narrative poems about mountains. Finally, we split into our house groups to share our stories with the rest of the school.
We looked fabulous in our costumes and Miss Barron and Mrs Riley were super impressed with all of our costumes!

We were really efficient at using the map to find the markers and we had loads of fun!

Y4 – Science – Visit to the Glass Centre – 19.2.2025

20th February 2025Helen Smith
Year 4 have had an amazing introduction to their next science topic of “Changing Matter” that they will be starting after half term by a visit to the National Glass Centre.
We performed a range of experiments to see if our predictions would be correct when water was added to different substances and watched how glass is blown to create a beautiful wavy bowl after heating it to temperatures of 1,100 degrees!
To end a brilliant day, we planned and made our own glass designs that will be fired in the ovens at 780 degrees and collected over the holidays,
We are so excited for next term!

This week we have been focusing on developing our posture during our Oracy sessions. We enjoyed the challenge and competed against each other to see how far we could travel whilst keeping the book balanced.

Y4 – Art – Time to Talk Day – 3.2.2025

7th February 2025Helen Smith
Year Four completed their Vista topic in our Time to Talk Day using all the knowledge they have gained, to research and produce a piece of landscape art focusing on creating an atmospheric perspective using different shading and colouring techniques. They chose which medium they wished to use to colour their drawing and some decided on watercolours, pencils, fine line pens or even pastels.
Once completed, the children wrote a statement explaining why they had chosen that particular picture and which techniques they had used, which they presented to parents and carers in our art gallery.
