Y2: Geography / PSHE

As part of our Coastlines topic, this week Year 2 had a special visitor from the RNLI.

He showed us all of the flags which help us to stay safe on the beach and talked to us about the four steps to stay safe on the beach. Year 2 really enjoyed having our special visitor in class.

Y2: Science

This week in Year 2 we have been investigating absorbency in Science. We have used vocabulary like water proof, absorbent and saturated.

We thought about our research question and how we could record and measure our results. I was really impressed with the scientists we have in Year 2.

Today, Year 2 looked at maps keys and considered why they are important. We then put our new knowledge of map keys into practise and drew our own key and map to go with it.

This week in RE, Year 2 have been following on from learning the story of Hanukkah to understanding the importance of the menorah to the Jewish people. We found out what a menorah looks like, why it is important and the importance of light in the story of Hanukkah.

This week, Year 2 have been practising their passing and defending skills building towards a netball game. We worked on passing accurately so that catching was made easier and building up evasion and defence skills to regain possession.

This week Year 2 have been learning about sketching and we enjoyed spending some time in the forest school looking at different plants and flowers. We though about size, structure and using careful pencil strokes to create realistic sketches. Well done Year 2.

Y2: SMSC / Geography: Christmas Around The World

In Year 2, we visited France for our Christmas around the world day. We started off with food tasting of croissants and then we learned about the importance of nativity. We then created our own nativity scene. We learned about the importance of advent wreaths in France and created our own which will go home as a decoration for our own tree.

Year 2 have worked so hard this week on the laptops. They recorded data in science and completed their gold write for topic by create a power point to show their learning, tricky stuff.
