Theyab enjoyed Seaham beach yesterday collecting seaglass and stones he liked. All washed and sparkling clean!
Well done to Isobelle in Y3 for the resilience she has shown recently and therefore received this award. Her mam isn’t well and she has shown really strength and bravery. We are really proud of her and hope her mam is better soon!!
Hello Everyone
Well we are at the end of our second week working from home. I have been so impressed with the work that the children in Year 3 have done this week. We have been retelling the story of Odysseus and the Trojan Horse and identifying fractions, counting in tenths and adding fractions in maths. A very busy week!
I have been enjoying the messages from both children and parents and have had a bit of help with my work! Bear does sometimes think I should be giving her a tickle rather than working, but we are enjoying spending time together.
Stay well and safe everyone
Hello Everyone
Well we are nearly at the end of the first week of our new way of life. I have been able to get out and about walking Bear. She is very good, but loves to chase birds and bits of black plastic, this is a bit strange and she tries to trick me by looking the other way and then running very quickly!
Now we are back from our walk and she is fast asleep.
Welcome back to a full and busy Spring term. First of all I would like to wish everyone a very Happy New Year, I hope that you all had a wonderful time over the holidays and had lots of fun.
This term promises to be lots of fun too. We are beginning a new topic entitled “Gods and Mortals” where we will be discovering the myths and legends of Ancient Greece as well as looking at the geography of the region. We might even explore how we would have acted if we had found Pandora’s Box. Would you have opened it or left it well alone?
I am really looking forward to studying two different books this term, The Tin Forest and The Iron Man. Both are amazing books, but very different, one definitely appeals to the eye with beautiful and meaningful illustrations, while the other is the definition of “don’t judge a book by its cover”. We will look at how these books surprise and challenge the reader, as well as trying to write in a range of styles.
Maths will continue to challenge us to build on our knowledge daily, we will look at topics which include multiplication and division, money, fractions and measurement. As well as learning new methods and facts, I hope that we will continue to have fun with numbers and explore this exciting subject.
This term also sees Year 3 starting swimming sessions. This will take place after February half term, and more details will be sent out near the time. We will finish the term with our Grandparents’ Concert, which is always a highlight of the year, I wonder what the theme will be this year!
As you can see, this is a very full term, with lots to look forward to.
Welcome to Year 3.
I am so excited and thrilled to say hello to our time in Year 3. This is such an exciting time in our learning journey, we will be building on everything we learned in Key Stage 1 and exploring and acquiring new skills as we move forward.
Our journey starts by travelling back in time to The Stone Age, which we will study as part of our project Tribal Tales. We will be exploring cave paintings, amazing creatures and the lives of those people who lived so long ago.
Some important things to note for Year 3
PE Days are Tuesday and Friday. On a Tuesday we will be taking part in a Yoga class for the first half term, also on a Tuesday we will be taking part in Pedestrian Training, so a Tuesday afternoon will be very busy.
Reading Days will be shared with the children by the end of the first week, and I will also be sending more information out about homework this week.
Mr Mac and I have been absolutely thrilled with the way the children have coped with the challenge of Year 3. Indeed lots of people have commented on how sensible and confident the children have been. What an amazing start!
As ever, if you have any questions or concerns, or just want a chat to find out how things are going, then please don’t hesitate to get in touch.
Thank you for your continuing enthusiasm and support.
Miss Lenney and Mr Mac
This term in Year 3 we have been been reading Charlie and the Chocolate Factory as part of our topic, Scrumdiddlyumptious and we are loving it!
Right at the start of the topic we visited a local supermarket to find out about the different types of food sold and to read signs and labels to find out where produce comes from. We chose a selection of fresh fruits and vegetables to bring back to school to ‘investigate’. (We had a lovely afternoon tasting it all)
We’ve had a fun term and produced some excellent work linked to our topic. So far we have written a recount about our visit to the local shop, designed a front cover for a book, sketched fruits and vegetables, designed our own sweets and packaging, learnt about the journey a banana takes before it arrives in our shops and so much more! We still have lots of fun and interesting things to come before Easter arrives and the summer term lands on us… Already! The year is flying by and the children are working so hard and having fun along the way.
Two happy teachers! 🙂
Year 3 have been taking part in Forest School this half term and we have loved it! This has contributed to our science, DT, art, SMSC and key skills.
We have made leaf kebabs, made friends with trees, made our own obstacle courses and so much more! It has been brilliant learning in the outdoors.
