House Pumpkin Contest

23rd October 2014Mr G Mcintosh

Wow!

Just.

WOW!

Once again I am thrilled with the level of skill shown by the children and their parents in carving the pumpkins for the house competition.  The pumpkins will be judged tomorrow, and the winners from each class will be announced in a special assembly at 2.30!

It is going to be a tough choice again this year!

Here are a selection of entries, can you spot yours?

Look out for the winners photographs tomorrow and for the announcement of the winning house!

Shine ‘Wear it Yellow Day’

21st October 2014Mr G Mcintosh

nocwoucnown ofjdkngoejnso nevvuiniuToday the children of Bede Burn took partin our second SHINE ‘Wear it Yellow’ day to raise funds for the charity SHINE.  Grace, in year two, has Spina Bifida and Hydrocephalus which the charity raises money to aid research and treatments.  As this week is the national awareness week for the two conditions we asked the children to wear something bright yellow (being the charity’s colour) and bring a small donation for the privilege of not wearing their uniform.

A massive thank you to all of the children and their families who supported this cause and helped Bede Burn to raise £242 today!  An excellent effort!

Check out the pictures of the children working and playing in bright yellow…

House Pumpkin Carving Contest

7th October 2014Mr G Mcintosh

I was delighted and amazed at the creativity and talent shown in last year’s pumpkin carving competition.  It is definitely my favourite house contest of the year!

The rules are fairly simple:

  • This contest is designed for children to work with an adult (knives are sharp!) AT HOME to carve a pumpkin.
  • Pumpkins are then brought into school on Thursday 23rd October and will be displayed in the classrooms.
  • The pumpkins will be judged by Mr Arthur and a ‘guest judge’.
  • The winner in each class earns 5 house points for their house, 3 points for second place and 1 point for third.
  • The house with the most house points across the school will win the coveted house trophy.
  • Prizes will be awarded on Friday 24th October in assembly.
  • Pumpkins MUST be collected on Friday and taken home!

Good luck everyone and I look forward to seeing the entries!

Macmillan Coffee Afternoon.

29th September 2014Mr G Mcintosh

On Friday 26th September, Mrs Parkes hosted another hugely successful coffee afternoon to raise funds for the Macmillan nurses.

We knew this event was going to be popular, but we didn’t bank on it taking over twenty minutes just to get everyone into the hall!  We were overwhelmed with the response and turnout and were thankful that we had bought enough biscuits! (Although some staff were disappointed at the lack of leftovers!)

Massive thanks to everyone who donated raffle prizes and provided cakes to sell.  We clearly have some very talented parents, and the cakes and buns went down a storm!

No doubt that part of the popularity was down to the fact that Reception and year one provided the entertainment!  I think it is incredible testament to how confident and settled our reception class is that they were quite happy to sing in front of such a huge audience, a huge thank you to the staff for leading the singing too!

I hope that everyone who attended had a great time and returned home contented, entertained and full of cake!  Macmillan will be delighted too, due to your generosity and the staff’s hard work we managed to raise a very impressive £570.70!  Quite easily the most we have ever raised at a coffee morning!

Thank you all.

Look out for more events coming soon…IMG_0345-1 IMG_0343-1 IMG_0372-1 IMG_0369-1 IMG_0367-1 IMG_0364-1 IMG_0362-1 IMG_0359-1 IMG_0358-1 IMG_0357-1 IMG_0356-1 IMG_0352-1 IMG_0351-1 IMG_0348-1

Welcome back and refurbishment news…

4th September 2014Mr G Mcintosh

Welcome back everybody, I know this will be an exciting and successful year for everyone here at Bede Burn!

As some of you may know we have had massive renovations and refurbishments going on over the summer holiday.  A brief run down of the works are:

  • New carpets throughout the school
  • New vinyl ‘wet areas’
  • All walls painted
  • Fitted sink areas in every class
  • 200 new chairs
  • New furniture in every class room
  • Outside gym equipment installed
  • Sliding doors fitted across every class cupboard space.

The school looks fantastic and is an excellent learning environment for our children.  A massive thank you goes from us all here to Mr Mckeown, without whom the work simply would not have been finished.

Check out the photgraphs here to get an idea…IMG_0237IMG_0240 IMG_0243 IMG_0238 IMG_0237 IMG_0231 IMG_0252 IMG_0251 IMG_0250 IMG_0248 IMG_0247 IMG_0246 IMG_0237 IMG_0236IMG_0232

Our Sports Day

2nd July 2014Mr M Hamilton

We had a great time at our annual sports day, every child tried their very best and had huge amounts of fun.  Eventually Warkworth emerged victorious, narrowly pipping Aydon by 1 point to lift the trophy! A jubilant house team completed the, now traditional, lap of honour, gleefully holding the trophy aloft!

A massive thank you to all the staff for organising the day, and for all of the parents, friends and family who attended and gave the children such support.  A special thanks to all of the parents that joined in the parents’ race, I know that there is going to be some serious training ready for next year!

Guide Dogs!

6th May 2014Mr M Hamilton

Last week we had a visit from the ‘Guide Dogs For The Blind’.  We were treated to a demonstration of incredible behaviour by one of the dogs, who then visited every class and her handler answered the children’s questions.  Look out for news soon about some exciting fund raising events to support the charity!

Down on the farm

28th April 2014Mr M Hamilton

The children in Reception had a great day with their Year 6 buddies helping the farmer to feed the baby lambs, brush the donkeys and wash the pigs.

Thank you to all our parent volunteers, without you the day would not have been possible.

Easter Egg Competition

28th April 2014Mr M Hamilton

The last week of Spring term may not have brought ‘spring like’ weather, but there were happy faces all around as Bede Burn held the fourth ‘house competition’ of the year.  Building on the knowledge that our parents can become very competitive (see October’s pumpkin contest!) we knew that the standard would be very high and we were not disappointed!  There were four ‘winners’ in each class and the judging was easily most difficult decision I’ve had to make this year!

From Angry Birds to farm animals, Storm Troopers to ‘egg pods’ the plethora of egg based puns was second to none!

In the end Aydon house emerged triumphant.

A huge amount of thanks to all of the parents, carers, Grans Grandads and other adults who put in so much time and effort creating the eggcellent creations.
