Year Five have been reading the book, ‘If the World Were a Village’. It explains world statistics by reducing the difficult numbers (millions and billions of people) down by scale, as if there were only 100 people in the world. The children were fascinated by many of the facts in the book, such as how many out of 100 have access to regular food and clean water and also how many have computers or even just electricity!
Each group used their knowledge of charts and graphs to decide themselves how to present the information to the rest of the class. They had unlimited access to the art cupboard and the sky was the limit!
I was very impressed by the ideas developed by each group and also by their group presentations. Marvellous maths in action!
