I must share with you some of the work in English that Year 6 have been doing recently. We have spent the last few weeks reading ‘Stormbreaker’ by Anthony Horowitz – a novel about a teenager reluctantly recruited into MI6 following the murder of his uncle. The children have loved reading this book at every opportunity and I have had to be careful to stop reading in order to fit in some maths lessons!
So far the children have written a diary entry about the day of Alex’s uncles funeral, an explanation text describing a gadget they have designed for a teenage spy and an accompanying persuasive letter to Smithers – the books equivalent of ‘Q’ in James Bond.
They have analysed the language and word choices of the author that created tension and atmosphere and constructed a line graph to show the most and least tense moments in a very exciting chapter amongst other activities.
We hope to write our own exciting short story chronicling a new adventure in the life of Alex Rider. We will be sharing them with you on our website – look out for them!
