Year 5 enjoyed making their Christmas STEM projects, which we sold at our Christmas Fayre. Check out some of our Christmas tree decorations!

Year Five participated in some heartwarming community engagement today when we went to Monkton Methodist church hall to sing some festive songs to the Alzheimer’s Society. After visiting them last year, we were asked back to bring some Christmas cheer once again and we DEFINITELY managed to do that!
The children showed their fabulous, confident Oracy skills and made their teachers very proud as they sang and danced along with their audience with amazing enthusiasm! They mingled and chatted away to their new found friends and made some people very happy today! Well done Year Five you made Bede Burn tremendously proud!
Year 5 took great pride in presenting their DT creations, which encompassed all their learning in our Moving Mechanisms topic, to our visiting engineer, Craig Wilkinson.
Their remit was to invent something strong and stable, that would be useful around the home and that involved using a pneumatic system.
The children made use of their strong Oracy skills as they articulated the purpose of their invention to Craig and the rest of the class, explaining exactly how it should work.
Craig was very impressed by the range of ideas and, even though not all of them worked, the intent and overall effort made by everyone was congratulated.

Year 5 completed their next Computing unit on Friday, which was all about Video Production. We first discussed videos and their techniques. Then, we wrote storyboards to help us in our plan before producing our own videos focussing on different video framing techniques. We finished by editing our videos on iMovie to improve them further.

Year 5 had their next Forest School session, which was linked to our current Science unit- Earth and Space. We explored how Sundials work and learned about the phases of the moon. Check out some of our photos!

Mrs Smith had the absolute privilege of accompanying Bede Burn school choir to the annual Carol service at Jarrow Cemetery!! The children sang beautifully and were a real credit to Bede Burn! Thank you so much to the choir and their parents for coming along on a Saturday! It was a real festive treat despite the rain ️ and the children carried on regardless!

Y4/5 visited St. Joseph’s Catholic Academy on Wednesday morning to participate in a P.E. event led by their Sport’s Leaders where we enjoyed completing various sporting activities and challenges. We completed football, netball, cheerleading and agility challenges. Check out some of our in action photos!
This afternoon in P.E., Year 5 enjoyed practising their relays and throwing the foam javelins, which are key events in Sportshall Athletics. Check out some of our in action photos!

On Friday, year 5 visited Jarrow Library as part of our reading for pleasure in English. We enjoyed listening to stories, we chose our own books and have brought books back to school. We’re really looking forward to reading our books. Check out some of our photos!
