Hello and Happy New Year!
We hope you had a fantastic holidays, it was wonderful to see Year 1 so excited to be back to school!
What do you call a dinosaur with an extensive vocabulary?
A Thesaurus.
Spring term will be a busy but exciting term. We have started our new topic, ‘Dinosaur Planet’, which will see Year 1 time-travel back to the Mesozoic Era to find out about some magnificent but fearsome creatures: dinosaurs! We will all become expert paleontologists, digging deep to discover dazzling dinosaur facts. Our new topic will see us pay a visit to the Great North Museum later this term – more information to follow!
As well as ‘Dinosaur Planet’, we will spend the end of Spring term doing a short, geography-based topic all to do with London. Although we have no trips to London planned, we may see if Her Majesty is free to pay us a visit…
Some other important information for the upcoming term:
– Please ensure reading books are read at home and reading diaries are filled in, as well as sending reading books into school every day
– Our PE sessions will be alternate Tuesday afternoons and every Friday afternoon (this session will be with a cricket coach). Can you please make sure PE kits are in school for these days
– Can you please make sure your child does not bring toys into school. We understand how precious they can be and would hate to see them broken!
As always, we can’t wait for yet another brilliant term with the little people!

Welcome to a new academic year and an exciting year in Year 1! We have already been incredibly busy (see images for ‘body bingo’, which we played during our science lesson!)
Here are a few bits of information for the coming term:
– PE days are Monday & Tuesday, please ensure kits are in school
– Homework will be posted on Seesaw on a Wednesday and will be due the following Monday
– Our topic this term is ‘Paws, Claws and Whiskers’ so keep an eye out on Seesaw for pictures of what we’ll be getting up to!
We are two days into term and I’m already incredibly impressed with how the children have risen to the challenge of Year 1. It can be quite different from Reception but they have taken it all in their stride – I’m excited for what the rest of the year has in store!
If you have any questions, don’t hesitate to message me on Weduc or talk to me on the yard.

They say smiles are contagious so what better way to celebrate World Smile Day 2017 than share some of our smiles with you.
A big thank you to all our children for the smiles you bring us everyday.
Yesterday was the national ‘sing up’ day and, as you would expect, we got heavily involved at Bede Burn!
The children were visited by Charlotte and Jack from the Sing Up organisation and they spent the morning visiting the classes and singing with each year group. The teachers stayed in their rooms and each class visited to sing a song in every room in the school. We then gathered together to sing the ‘Sing Up Anthem’ in the hall.
The day was rounded off by our attempt at a flash mob song after school!
For those of you on twitter, check out @SingUpChar she has posted some very complimentary tweets about her day with us!
There is a gallery of photographs here.
Hopefully there will be some video clips below this post soon!

Year 1 and Year 2 had a great time at their party on Tuesday afternoon. The children enjoyed playing lots of games and we even had special visitor’s who came to see us.
Thank you to the parents for providing the party plates and for making the children all look glamorous!
Enjoy the holidays 🙂

Here are Year One performing their version of the Three Little Pigs!
Watch out for some scary wolves though!
Happy New Year and welcome back!
Wow what a fantastic and busy term we had! I hope you are ready for another one!
Our topic this term is the magnificent Walt Disney. Throughout this topic the children will be exploring the history of Walt Disney and finding out how and when the magic began.
Our literacy work this term will focus on our story writing skills, giving the children a variety of different challenges, from creating character profiles to developing their role-play skills. We will continue to focus on our phonic work to improve both our reading and our writing. Phonics Play www.phonicsplay.co.uk is a great website which has some free games and activities which you may find useful!
In maths we will continue to develop our understanding of number and shape, space and measures, any help you could give the children on number bonds to 10 would be great. I would also really appreciate any help and support you could give to the children in their understanding of money and time.
Thank you!
Mrs Spencer
